One-on-one tutoring service

Offering reading, spelling and writing assistance. I assist those with dyslexia, dysgraphia and other reading and/or writing difficulties. Some local schools let me work at the school within the school day but other arrangements can be made.

Available in Barnum, Moose Lake and surrounding areas.

Qualifications

I started my career in education in 2015 as a Minnesota Reading Corps tutor, completing the maximum of 4 terms. Shortly after in 2017, I became a k-12 substitute teacher, which I still do. Most recently, in 2020, I received my MEd in Curriculum and Instruction with emphasis on Trauma and Resilience in the Education Setting. I am a qualified tutor to use the Barton Reading and Spelling Program for dyslexia and other related reading differences.

What is Trauma-informed?

This means I operate from the perspective that a human is more likely than not to have a history of trauma. I recognize the presence of trauma. My approach promotes resilience and avoids retraumatization. I can work with all children and youth from the same framework whether or not trauma is present. I focus on celebrating what is accomplished with each session rather than what is not.

Why do I do this?

A family tragedy in 2015 led me to want to bring hope and healing to others experiencing various types of hardship. I want to help those who are feeling extremely stressed, do not "fit in" or worse, feel invisible. I do this by creating a positive, encouraging, consistent and caring environment. My goal is to reduce the number of young people who experience suicidal thoughts or actions. I want to help young people become healthy adults.
